This morning United States President Barack Obama named Solicitor General Elena Kagan, the United States Government’s lawyer who currently argues before the Supreme Court, as his nominee to replace Retiring Justice Stevens on the United States Supreme Court.

Elena Kagan, a who does not have any prior experience serving as a Judge, has an impressive legal resume that includes graduating from law school at Harvard Law School Magna Cum Laude, serving as a law clerk on both a United States Court of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court, working as a lawyer in a law firm and serving as the Dean of Harvard Law School.

If nominated, Elena Kagan will be the fourth woman to serve as a justice on the United States Supreme Court.
