As recently reported in the San Antonio Express News, San Antonio based insurance company USAA has recently been sued as a result of allegations that it improperly used a ‘cost containment program’  to improperly reduce or deny medical payouts to insurance customers.

As alleged in the lawsuit, USAA uses a third party to review claims made on USAA PIP (personal injury protection) or med pay payments, which almost ‘uniformly conclude(s) that medical treatment was not needed’ by the USAA insured.

The lawsuit against the San Antonio insurance company was filed in Federal District Court in Oregon, and is based on the claims of four unrelated USAA customers. The lawsuit is currently seeking class action status.
