DLG Luce – Immigration – Federal Judge Hears Arguments for Preliminary Injunction

The San Antonio Express News recently reported on a hearing in Federal Court in Brownsville, Texas, wherein a Federal Judge granted the federal government until January 30th to respond to a preliminary injunction lawsuit filed by Texas and 25 other states regarding President Obama’s recently announced immigration plan. Notably, Texas leads the litigation.
As noted in the article, attorneys for the Texas led lawsuit argued that Obama acted without congressional approval when he announced on November 20, 2014 a significant expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, adding a similar program for undocumented parents of US citizens and permanent residents.
United States District Judge Andrew Hanen, a judge appointed by George W. Bush, pressed the federal government on its policy, but also warned that he would not have his courtroom turn into a venue to air complaints.
