DLG Luce – Austin – Lt. Gov. Patrick: Open Carry Does Not Currently Have Votes to Pass Senate
As recently reported in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Texas Lt. Gov. Patrick recently stated that the Senate does not currently have the votes to pass new open carry legislation in Texas. The hotly contested legislating is being pushed by supporters to allow the open carry of handguns statewide in Texas. According to the article, the statement by Patrick delivered the legislation a ‘serious blow.’
As quoted in the article, Patrick stated that ‘Second Amendment rights are very important, but open carry does not reach the level of prioritization at this point.’
Early in the Texas legislative session, open carry supporters visited some lawmakers urging them to support the legislation. A video recently posted online shows supporters being aggressive with Eagle Pass state Rep. Poncho Nevarez, which has drawn significant criticism of the supporters.
