According to an article recently published in BusinessWeek, San Antonio and Austin currently have the first and second strongest economies in the country respectively. While this does not mean that central Texas has avoided the recession entirely, it is positive news that San Antonio and Austin have been able to avoid much of the hardship faced in other parts of the country. 

In making the rankings, BusinessWeek used research from the Brookings Institution that looked at a number of factors across the 100 largest U.S. metro areas, including job growth, gross metro product, unemployment change and home prices.
