As was recently reported in the San Antonio Express News, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal Court based in New Orleans that oversees Federal appeals from Texas, declined to require additional environmental studies for a quarry company in Medina County. The decision effectively allows Vulcan Materials to move forward with their quarry in Medina County, which neighbors San Antonio Bexar County.

The Medina County Environmental Action Association had argued a review which had consisted of 600 acres slated for mining was not sufficient since the work could affect endangered species. 

A spokesman for Vulcan referred to the Court’s ruling as a major victory.
