As recently reported in the Austin American Statesman, the Austin City Council will consider a possble ban on text messaging while driving. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, in addition to City Council members Mike Martinez and Chris Riley are proposing to prohibit writing, sending and reading text mesages and emails, as well as viewing the internet on a cell phone while driving a vehicle or bicyling. In response to the proposal, some members of the police department have noted that it could be tough to enforce.
