As noted in our May 10th posting, both Austin and San Antonio recently had their mayoral elections. The outcome in the San Antonio race was clear, and Mayor-elect Julian Castro will take office on June 1, 2009.
In Austin, the results were not as clear, as no candidate garnered a majority vote. As such, a runoff election was slated between two city council members, Lee Leffingwell and Brewster McCracken. 
Since then, on May 11, 2009, by way of an email announcement, Brewster McCracken dropped out of the race. This was not entirely unexpected given the large deficit McCracken was left to make up with Leffingwell. 
Now, both San Antonio and Austin are ready to usher in new eras with Mayor Castro and Mayor Leffingwell respectively.
